Hear the story of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum’s ambitious Creek project and how dredging and developing this vital waterway helped welcome larger vessels, expand trade and pave the way for Dubai’s remarkable growth

The experience also reveals the story of transportation in Dubai. Long before bridges, tunnels and the Metro connected the city, abras carried people across the Creek between Deira and Bur Dubai. Discover how these simple wooden boats became part of everyday life and how the city’s transport network evolved as Dubai grew.

During the cooler winter months, you may even be joined by seagulls along the way, adding another memorable sight to your experience on the Creek.

Photography is welcome throughout the experience. We kindly ask guests to be respectful of others and to ask for permission before taking photographs that include local residents, boat crew members or other guests.

Beginnings of Dubai Abra Tour: Narrated by Emiratis is a relaxed cultural journey along Dubai Creek, bringing its history to life through Emirati narration and storytelling. As you travel along the water, discover the communities, traditions, trades and moments that shaped life around the Creek and contributed to the beginnings of modern Dubai.

The experience takes place aboard a traditional abra and is designed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace while you take in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of one of Dubai’s most historic waterways.

For the comfort of all guests and to help keep the abra clean, food and beverages are not permitted on board.

As this is an outdoor experience on Dubai Creek, the journey may occasionally be affected by weather, water conditions, visibility, operational requirements or instructions from the relevant authorities.

For the comfort and safety of our guests, the route, departure time or experience may be adjusted, rescheduled or, where necessary, cancelled if conditions are unsuitable.

We will always do our best to communicate any significant changes as early as possible.

Boarding & Safety

Guests will need to step between the dock and the abra when boarding and disembarking. Please take care and follow the instructions provided by the crew and experience team.

For your safety, guests are kindly requested to remain seated when instructed and avoid leaning over the sides of the abra during the journey.

Children must remain under the supervision of their accompanying adult at all times and, for their safety, must be seated in the inner seating area of the abra throughout the journey.

Accessibility & Mobility

Guests with limited mobility, wheelchair users or anyone who may require additional assistance are kindly requested to contact us before booking. Our team will advise you on the suitability of the experience and any possible arrangements.

Timing & Arrival

Guests are kindly requested to arrive 10–15 minutes before the scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for check-in and boarding.

The abra departs promptly at the time stated in your booking confirmation. As you may be joining other guests and the experience follows a scheduled journey on Dubai Creek, we are unable to delay departure for late arrivals.

Guests who arrive late may miss the departure and may not be able to join the experience once the abra has left.
